Lots of new snow over the past week here in Borovets. It has been snowing almost every day and the new snow cover is over 70cm in the Markudjik ski area. This adds to the already thick base layer on the slopes and will prolong the season. The forecast is for even more snow Thursday through Friday and a sunny Saturday.

All lifts are open and working in the ski area. Even the Markudjik 3 surface lift is working, which has had issues with snow cover in the past. As the high season has ended, there are almost no lift lines. Only at the gondola mid-station can you find a line in the earlier part of the day. The line for the gondola in the morning passes faster than you would expect and waiting is very little.

Snow cover is sufficient on all slopes at the moment and there were plenty of powder days throughout the week. Conditions in the Markudjik ski area are very good, however clouds and fog came and went throughout the day. This made skiing on the green Suhar run difficult and most beginners avoid it in such conditions. The Musalenska pathway is also open, however the snow is very hardpacked. Good news is that the piste is good all the way down and the snow is fast.

Conditions in Yastrebets are good in the morning, however it is slushy in the afternoon. If you want to catch well groomed slopes, you’ll have to wake up on time. If you plan on skiing in the afternoon, I suggest softer and wider skis, as they will cope better with the conditions. The mini-boardercross slope is also open and shaped, while the Yastrebets 3 ski run is closed.

The best conditions today were probably in the Sitnyakovo ski center. It has also received plenty of fresh new snow on the slopes, though not as much as higher up. But unlike higher up, the weather today was nice and sunny. The piste conditions were also better in the afternoon, as fewer people ski the slopes in Sitnyakovo. The snow park was closed again. Night skiing is still open and now is a perfect chance to try it out.
