In our first Snow Report for 2018, we have some good news about the conditions in Borovets. Today it snowed around 10cm from the start of the morning in the mountain and a little less in the resort area. This isn’t much, but with the snow cannons working constantly, it’s good to have natural snow in the mix. Also, the New Years peak season is over and there are smaller lift queues during the weekdays than last week.

No new lifts have opened since our last Snow Report, with the Markudjik 2 and 3 lifts still closed. Good news is that there was very little wind today, with the forecast showing it to stay like that the next few days. The gondola queue at around 10 AM was about a 20-minute wait with the line moving relatively fast. The only lines in the resort today were at the beginners surface lifts in Sitnyakovo and Suhar, everywhere else you just got straight onto the lift. Due to fog and cloudy weather at the top of the mountain, the Sitnyakovo Ski Center was the busiest place today.

The groomed ski slopes remain the same since last week, but early morning conditions on the open ones are mint. By the afternoon some hard patches of artificial snow started showing, so make sure your edges are sharp enough. In the Yastrebets and Sitnyakovo Ski Centers, there are no rocks or anything on the slope, so you can ski without worrying about that. Up top in the Markudjik Ski Center, you’ll find a rock or two here and there, but nothing to worry too much about. Keep in mind that the beginning of Martinovi Baraki 1 can be very crowded, but everyone disperses after the first flat bit. The same goes for the first 200m of the Yastrebets ski run.

Thanks to the cold weather, the snow cannons have been working non-stop, even during the day. This can be unpleasant, as the snow sticks to your goggles, but it’s necessary at the moment. Freeride terrain in the resort area is still unskiable, as there is very little completely natural snow outside of the slopes. If you want to take your kid sledding, then you can head over to the bottom of the Cherveno Zname ski run, the only place where it’s allowed and safe.
