Happy New Year! We’ve got plenty of great news in our first snow report of the year. The Markudjik ski center is open and the forecast is for a lot more snow to fall Thursday through Friday. There is over 50cm of new snow expected to fall over night, so keep that in mind if you’re arriving in the resort during the next few days.
The Markudjik ski center is now open for the most part. Markudjik 1 and 2B were open and mostly groomed. On the 2B there were some grass patches and small rocks The Markudjik 1 was in better shape and didn’t have any snow problems. The surface lifts Markudjik 1 and 4 seat lift Markudjik 2 were servicing the ski are. It was hard to get speed on the Markudjik 2B, as there were some big bumps scattered throughout the slope and low visibility due to the cloudy weather.
There were some strong winds today, which affected the 4 seat lift Markudjik 2. When it is windy we advise using the surface lifts, as the 4 seater often stops or doesn’t open. The Suhar ski run is also open and is a great choice for beginners. The only problem would be getting down, as there are no easy slopes open from top to bottom, but the gondola remains an option. There is also a small magic carpet that takes you from the bottom of the Suhar run to the gondola, so you don’t have to walk.
To get from the Markudjik ski center down you can take that Haramia ski run down to the Yastrebets ski center and go down from there. The Haramia is in good conditions, but there are the occasional small rocks on the slopes. The Fon Fon ski slope is still officially closed, but many people have been skiing it these last few days.
The Yastrebets slopes are open and working. Conditions are good, but if you want perfectly groomed snow you’re going to have to get up early and be among the first to ski. The snow is soft and loses its flat texture by the afternoon. Ice and rocks are hard to find in the Yastrebets ski center and the only downside is the longer lift line compared to the other parts of the mountain. Waiting times are 5-10 minutes per run.
Sad news for the fans of night skiing. Due to the low temperatures, the lighting in the upper part of the Sitnyakovo ski area has failed. From the 4th of January only the surface lifts Iglika, Rila and Rotata will be open for night skiing. Prices will be 13lv for adults and 10lv for children. We will let you know once we have more information on the matter through our Facebook page.
