The last weekend of January was great in Borovets – despite the mild wind, slopes delivered great fun all day long. Early bird riders could choose between crispy fresh slopes and fresh powder snow off-piste – two great options to choose from.
Slopes & Lifts
It’s a great time to be in Borovets right now – slopes are still not busy and remain in great conditions for most of the day. Thanks to this week’s snowfall, all runs continue to be really fast and fun but also forgiving to beginners. The Bulgarian mid-term school vacation will start next week, and with that pistes are expected to gradually get busier. The good news is that the amount of snow in the resort at the moment is fantastic for this part of the year and all lifts and runs are opened and will be able to accommodate the traffic.
The entire ski area was opened today after a short break yesterday when the strong winds made the resort close down the Markudjik skia area. The Sitnyakovo and Martinovi baraki runs are also great at the moment and make for a great choice for those of you who’d like to stay away from the colder temperatures in the upper part of the resort.
The overall conditions of all slopes at the moment is as good as It gets – all runs have an excellent snow cover and even the Musala pathway is fully operating and delivers quite some views across its 8km of length.
Snow Cover & Forecast
Borovets was lucky to be one of the few places in Bulgaria that got snow this week. With that, the snow cover at the Markudjik Area is now 165 cm whereas the central part of the resort has 135 cm of snow. Temperatures remained well below 0 C the entire week but have gradually risen in the past couple days. It was around – 5 C at the Markudjik ski area today and slightly warmer at the centre (- 2,5 C) which felt great after being exposed to – 15 C just few days earlier.
There’s more snow in the forecast for this week but even without it, the snow cover in Borovets is great and the resort is ready to welcome everyone getting ready to mid-term break. Temperatures are forecasted to remain below zero during this week, too, with Thursday expected to go as low as – 10 C.
