During the last week, over 50cm of new snow has fallen here in Borovets. Temperatures have been really cold and winds closed down the upper part of the mountain today. Slope conditions are good with plenty of snow and no ice.

The winds were strong even in the Yastrebets ski area.

There has been significant snowfall here in Borovets. Over the last 7 days it has snowed for about 4-5 of them. The result is over 50cm of new snow in the lower part of the mountain, even more up top.

Temperatures have remained extremely low for the most part of the week. The thermometers were showing -10°C to -15°C on the slopes during the day. It is so cold that the night skiing has been closed since the 4th of January, due to technical difficulties with the lighting. Good news is that it will be warmer during the weekend 0°C to -5°C in the resort area.

Strong winds kept the top part of the mountain closed today. The gondola worked only to its middle station and the Markudjik ski center was closed. The Yastrebets Express lift was working, but was very windy at the top. Add to that the closed Martinovi Baraki lift and there wasn’t much choice for skiers. Lift lines at Yastrebets were around 10 min., while at the Sitnyakovo Express lift the line was 5 min. Due to the wind, many Bulgarians stayed at home and this helped the keep the lines more reasonable. We are hoping that these winds won’t blow away all of the snow in the Markudjik ski center.

Piste conditions are great in the morning. You can easily feel the difference between the conditions now and a few weeks ago, when the snow cover had a higher percentage of artificial snow in it. With all of the new snow the slopes are soft and easy to carve on. The soft slopes are especially pleasant for beginners, who tend to fall more. The downside is that the slope deteriorate faster and lose form.

The Borosport snow park is also working. Even though it’s still a small setup, it’s enough to test your skills. Currently there are 2 kickers with a shared landing and a few rails and boxes. There is going to be a Red Bull competition held here on the 25th, so the park will probably be bigger by then.
