More new snow in Borovets this last week. The weather was a little warm last weekend, however things turned around in the mountains. Tuesday night brought around 15cm of fresh snow in the Markudjik ski center and visitors got a sunny powder day on Wednesday. Fog rolled in today and covered the lower part of the mountain.
We woke up to very cloudy weather, Borovets was fully engulfed in the clouds and fog. This meant that visibility was poor anywhere lower that the middle of the Yastrebets ski runs, where the slopes rose above the clouds. Thankfully, the Markudjik ski center was sunny until the late afternoon, when the clouds started coming in.
Conditions in the Markudjik ski center were good. There was no powder left close to the lifts, but you could walk toward Markudjik 3 and get some turns in there. Piste conditions were good and there were no big rocks or anything on the slopes. The 2A run has been declared a “Freestyle only” piste and hasn’t been groomed. If you’re bored of flat slopes, you can try your skills on the bumps there, but keep in mind it’s a black slope.
Below the top part of the Yastrebets ski run the fog was thick, but you could still make your way down. The pistes were well kept and flat throughout the day. Things weren’t much different in the Sitnyakovo ski center. Lift lines were small all over the resort, with the only significant wait being at the gondola. But even there the line seems to move relatively fast, not that any line could move fast enough.
A prime destination for lunch on such days are the restaurants at the top gondola station. Though the food there is more expensive than in the resort area, the sunshine makes it worth while.
