Winter’s back in Borovets! What a fantastic snowy week to set end to February. The busiest month of the season delivered well – sunny and foggy days, fresh snow, and above all unforgettable days on the slopes for many. After a gap year with no tourists, it was great to see Borovets as lively and festive.
Weather conditions & Forecast
Remember our previous snow report? Well, this week has nothing to do with it. After a sunny start of the week, temperatures gradually started to decrease and winter set its foot back in Borovets. The snow cover in the resort is now estimated to be the astonishing 250 cm at the Markudjik ski area and 210 cm at the heart of the Borovets.
It started snowing on Saturday and didn’t stop until Monday morning. We got 40 cm of new snow overnight and expect more in the coming days. The entire resort is back to its winter state and the amounts of snow at the gondola bottom station are pretty impressive.
Slopes & Lifts
All lifts across the resort operated as usual this week. The only exception was Sunday when the strong snowfall and winds closed down the upper part of the Yastrebets Gondola station. Speaking of the gondola, it’s fair to say its queues remained pretty busy this week. If you’re coming to Borovets, make sure to get to the gondola before 09:30AM in order to skip the longest queues.
Slopes felt much nicer this week. The colder weather contributed to perfectly groomed slopes and the new snow pack helped with that, too. It started snowing on Tuesday evening and we woke up to 15 cm of new snow on Wednesday. Despite foggy, the views were magnificent and the new snow made the Markudjik runs and off piste terrains heavenly good.
Friday was another day for the books – sunny and with perfectly groomed slopes. With all lifts across the resort operating, including the Markudjik 3 drag lift, there were little to no queues in the ski area.
The Musala pathway was bit icy in the first half of the week but offered a nice ride down to town from the Markudjik ski area. Our personal favourite for the week was once again the Markudjik 2 ski run – a slope equally good for intermediate and advanced skiers.
Threat yourself to a relaxing day in the hot pools after a long day on the slopes.
