It’s Half term and Borovets is as busy as it gets. We didn’t get lots of new snow this week but we got sunny spring-like weather and fantastic days on the slopes.
Slopes & Lifts
It’s been a good week for early bird riders. As temperatures remained rather warm throughout the entire week, slopes got slushy in the afternoons but made for great morning ride. All lifts in the resort are operating as usual and the night skiing is available every evening from 6:30 till 9:30PM.
The lower part of the resort – Martinovi baraki & Sitnyakovo slopes, were pretty busy this week so if you’re a more experienced and/or advanced rider, we’d recommend you to try the Yastrebets slopes instead. The Yastrebets Gondola queues were really busy all week, especially in the mornings but you can always take the free shuttle bus and get to the Yastrebets Express chairlift bottom station where usually you’ll find little to no queues.
The Popangelov slopes were perfectly groomed in the mornings but got pretty slushy and bumpy in the afternoons due to the warm weather. The Markudjici slopes were our favourites this week, especially on Saturday when it was sunny for most of the day.
Despite the busy gondola queues, the Markudjici slopes weren’t crowded and offered fantastic skiing conditions over the weekend.
Even the Markudjik 3 drag lift and slopes was working on Saturday and with that, the entire Markudjik ski area was opened.
Weather conditions & Forecast
Weather has been unusually warm for this part of the year. Temperatures remained above 0°C the entire week. It was 4°C at the Markudjik ski area this Saturday and weather felt like spring but good news is that snow is in the forecast for this week and temperatures are once again expected to decrease to their normal levels for the month. The warm weather did affect the slopes which were harder to maintain this week but overall, the snow base at the resort is still great thanks to the heavy snowfalls earlier in the year.
However, the week wasn’t just sun and bluebird skies. We got light snow showers on Monday, followed by couple of foggy days and a brilliant sunny weekend. If you’re to visit Borovets in February, make sure to pack well as weather has been changing rather often this month.
