One of the biggest advantages Borovets has over the other resorts in Bulgaria is its night skiing slopes. Every day from 6 PM to 9:30 PM a big part of the Sitnyakovo Ski Center is light up with floodlights so that you can enjoy some great evening conditions. The slopes are always freshly groomed and tonight was no different! And if you’ve booked your equipment with us you’re in luck, as we’re open until 10 PM every evening.

Working lifts for night skiing are the Martinovi Baraki 4-seat chairlift and the Iglika, Rotata and Rila surface lifts. The lift tickets are only 22 BGN for adults and 13 BGN for children 7-13 years of age. Lift lines are also much smaller and even negligible most of the time, even during the February high season. There are nights when there can be a significant queue, but this is mostly on the weekends. During tonight’s night session we didn’t have to wait for more than a minute or two to get onto the chairlift. If you’re afraid of the dark, don’t worry, they have lights in the woods under the chairlift as well.

Tonight the slopes were in perfect condition, but there was an unpleasant mist. Up top it wasn’t a problem, but it did get thick at the very bottom of the slopes. We found ourselves having to clean our googles ever run or two. But honestly, when we saw the perfect corduroy finish on the slopes, we knew that it was worth making it out to the slopes. Another advantage of night skiing is that the temperatures are lower than during the day, so the snow is harder. But it’s not too hard since it’s freshly groomed just before opening. This makes carving much more fun and we were able to push our skis harder than usual. There were some icy patches on some parts of the slopes, but they are much less than during the day. Normally, the snow park is also open, but due to the mist, it was closed today. And since there are fewer people than during the day, the slopes don’t get choppy throughout the evening session. Once the night skiing is over, the slopes are groomed again for the next day.
