Ahh, February, the busiest month of the year is beginning, but that’s during the mid-term breaks. Now the resort is still quite empty with very small lift lines during the workdays. Conditions have been very sunny the last week, but the good news is that we’re expecting more snow over the weekend. If you’re planning on coming to Borovets during the school holidays, make sure to read our blog post with helpful tips HERE.
All lifts are currently working, except the Markudjik 3 surface lift. Lift lines were almost non-existent for the chairlifts, but it was a different story for the surface lifts, especially those next to green slopes. In the Sitnyakovo Ski Center, the lines for the surface lifts were 5-10 minutes in the afternoon, while those for the chairlift were less than 2 minutes. During the weekends the lift lines for the chairlifts are just as long, even more so if it’s sunny. If you want to skip the gondola queue, you can first start off in Sitnaykovo and catch the gondola at 10-11 AM.
Slope conditions were superb today in the Yastrebets and Sitnyakovo ski centers. The snow was good throughout the day, without deteriorating too much. Few people on the Popangelov and Yastrebets 3 ski runs, but the Yastrebets 1 run is still closed in its final part. In Sitnyakovo the green slopes were a little crowded, while the steeper ones were in perfect condition, apart from some ice here and there. If you’re skiing the Martinovi Baraki runs or the Royal Residence Ski Road, it’s good to slow down where those slopes cross. It can get crowded and icy in those areas and there are a lot of kids you’d prefer not crashing into.
In the Markudjik Ski Center, only the Suhar and N.1 slopes are open and groomed. The Markudjik 2B is partially groomed but officially closed. Just like many other people, I checked it out and it wasn’t too bad. Some rocks here and there, but the slope is good for the most part. The Musalenska Ski Road is still closed, but checking that out could require a lot of walking at the end, so we’ll wait till it’s open.
Good news for anyone who likes jumps. The beginner’s boardercross slopes on the Popangelov ski run is almost ready. It has a few turns with berms, followed by some rollers you can jump off, a good place if you’re just learning to jump. For the more advanced riders, the snow park in front of hotel Rila has a bigger jump. If you want to hit it, it’s good to watch someone else first to see the amount of speed you’ll need. A few people today underestimated the jump and crashed before reaching the knuckle of the landing. Good things it’s still a small jump.
