If there’s one way to describe a weekday before the start of the high season in Borovets, it’s “the calm before the storm”. There were very few people on the slopes today, as compared to the weekend. However, the busiest part of the season starts around the 5th of February and were expecting many visitors to start arriving in the resort.
All lifts are working, except the Markudjik 3 surface lift, which probably won’t open this season. Lift lines were small throughout the day. Only at the gondola was there a small line in the afternoon. Both lifts in the Markudjik ski area were working at good speed. The Markudjik 1 surface lifts are two single person lifts that pull you up the mountain. They often have a smaller lift line than the 4 seat lift, but are less comfortable. It’s good to hold on the whole way up, as sometimes the lift pulls you hard while you’re not expecting.
Slopes in the Yastrebets and Sitnyakovo ski centers are in good condition. The cold weather earlier in the season gave the resort management the opportunity to produce a lot of artificial snow. With so little people at the moment the slopes are flat throughout the day with no bumps. In the Markudjik ski center there are no snow cannons, so grass patches and small rocks have started to show on the Markudjik 2B ski run. The 2A run is “Freestyle only” and hasn’t been groomed. The Markudjik 1 slope is the best of the lot. The Suhar ski run is also in perfect condition for beginners.
The snow park in the Sitnyakovo ski center was partially closed today as it needed to be reshaped. There are plenty of features for beginners and intermediates, including a mini-boardercross track. Just next to it is the Borokids park which is perfect for children on sunny days.
