Another beautiful week full of contrasts here in Borovets. We once again got snow, sun and fog – little bit of all. Winter is certainly not ready to slow down in the Rila mountain and the amount of snow in the resort is really impressive for this time of the season.
Slopes & Lifts
It’s getting lively and busy here in Borovets. Good news is that all slopes and lifts were operating this week, apart from Tuesday when the fog didn’t let the resort open the Markudjik ski area. On a more positive note, we got new snow on Monday and the lower part – the Martinovi baraki & Sitnyakovo slopes, offered fantastic skiing conditions.
The queues at the bottom station of the Yastrebets Gondola remained pretty crowded almost all week so if you’re out here and would like to skip the queue, we recommend you to take the free shuttle bus to Yastrebets slopes and make your way to the middle station of the gondola. As this week was one of the busiest of the season so far, the waiting at the bottom station took between 30 to 45 minutes.
The wait was worth it, however. After few foggy days, sun was back on Thursday and the Markudjik ski area was once again opened in its full glory. All lifts, including the Markudjik 3 drag lift, were opened on that day and the skiings condition in and off piste were perfect.
The foggy and cold weather had also preserved the fresh snow off the tracks and skiers and snowboarders could enjoy buttery powder turns, just meters away from the slopes.
Weather and Forecast
Weather keeps surprising us here in Bulgaria. After a relatively warm week, we got new 35 cm of snow on Monday, fog and winds on Tuesday and Wednesday and then beautiful bluebird Thursday and Friday, followed by foggy Saturday and Sunday.
It’s fair to say that we experienced all sorts of winter weather during the week but the best part is that the snow cover at the Markudjik ski area is now estimated to be the staggering 210 cm. The centre part of the resort has 175 cm of snow and with that, you can be rest assured there’s more than plenty of snow in Borovets.
Temperatures have once again decreased and the daily temperature is around 1 C. We anticipate some light snow showers on Friday and a sunny weekend ahead.
