It’s halfway through the first week of the ski season here in Borovets and many people took advantage of the last day of the Christmas holidays. The weather was warm and sunny, but strong winds kept the chairlift in the Markudjik Ski Center closed. The forecast is for more snow come Friday and for colder temperatures during the New Years holidays. Hopefully, we’ll start off 2018 with even better conditions than those at the moment, all we need is just a little bit more snow for everything to be perfect.

All ski lifts are currently working, except for the Markidjik 2 and 3 lifts. If you want to ski in the Markudjik Ski Center, the double surface lift Markudjik 1 is working at full capacity, with lift lines relatively short. Lift lines were longest in the early morning today, as many Bulgarians took advantage of the holiday and sunny weather and rushed to get the most out of their morning passes until 12:30 PM. Traffic leading to the resort was heavy with very few parking spaces left for those who arrived late. The line at the gondola ticket stand was also long early in the morning, but this is easily avoidable by going to the ticket center at the base of the Martinovi Baraki lift, or by recharging your pass online. If you’ve bought a package from us, that includes a lift pass, you will receive it from us in our shop and not need to line up to get yours.

All of the green beginner slopes in the resort are working, groomed and ready for ski lessons. Closed are the black Cherveno Zname, Fon Fon and Markudjik 2a, as well as the red Yastrebets 1 and Markudji 2b and 3. In the Markudjik Ski Center only the number 1 slope is open and groomed with only a few rocks here and there. Due to the windy weather over the past few days, the snow has been blown away on a few spots where it’s good to be extra careful. One such place is a spot between the top gondola station and the “White House” restaurant and the end of the Haramia run, just before the top of the Yastrebets Express lift.

In the Yastrebets Ski Center all of the slopes are open and groomed, except for the Yastrebets 1 run. This limits the access to the gondola mid-station, as you can’t reach it through an open slope from the Yastrebets lift. It is skiable, but there are quite a few rocks, so the chances of damaging your skis are high if you don’t ski slow and carefully. Conditions in the morning are perfect, with well-shaped slopes and that nice corduroy finish we love skiing. In the late afternoon you can expect a bumpy ride, but that’s often the case in most resorts. All that’s needed is a few more cold days and one snowfall and things will be even better thanks to the solid base layer of snow that’s already on the ground. Conditions in the Sitnaykovo Ski Center are good and with much fewer people throughout the day.
