Welcome to our first Snow Report from Borovets for the 2018/19 winter season. Since the first lifts started spinning last Saturday, conditions have been good for some early season skiing and things are only looking to get better with the weeks to come. If you’re planning a trip to Borovets this year, make sure to check back every week for our latest Snow Report.
Today included, the only working lift is the Yastrebets Express, along with a few surface lifts in the Sitnyakovo Ski Center. The gondola is still closed, but we do expect it to be opening very soon, once there is sufficient snow cover on the Haramia ski run. Lift lines have been small throughout the week, even with the discounted lift passes, which cost 30lv. until today. Tomorrow, Saturday the 22nd, is the official opening ceremony of the new 6-seater Martinovi Baraki Express lift. This means that most of the slopes in the Sitnyakovo Ski Center will open as well, but which are ready we’ll know tomorrow.
Slope conditions in the Yastrebets Ski Center are very good in the morning, with most of the slopes covered in nice waffles. There are no rocks anywhere to be found on the open pistes, however, there are some ungroomed spots from the snowcats, where the slope gets steeper. The ski road which leads from the Yastrebets Express lift to the bottom gondola station is also open, but to get up without a car you will need to take a shuttle from the gondola base station. The beginners’ area in front of the hotel Rila is also in perfect condition, awaiting first-timers to learn how to ski and snowboard. The sad news is that there probably won’t be any snowpark this year, so no jumps this season. For those of you wondering how the off-piste is, there still isn’t enough snow for that.
