It’s time for our weekly snow report from the slopes of Borovets ski resort.
This year “baba Marta” did not “surprise” us (as we usually say in Bulgaria about the month of March) at all. With no significant snowfall and with more sunny spring-like weather, the snow conditions were not at their best for another week. Read on throughout our newest snow report for more details on snow and slope conditions from this past week and onwards.

Good snow conditions at Yastrebets ski center

Snow and Slopes conditions over the week

The beginning of the week (06.03 – 08.03) was actually good with temperatures a little below zero and a little bit of snowfall. Snow conditions were perfect up to 11am. For the second part of the week and in the afternoons slushy slopes were a common view especially in the lower parts of the resort. Snow conditions on Yastrebets 3 and Popangelov slopes made them the better choice for the whole week with snow getting softer after 13.30pm.
However most of the snow on the slopes in the resort is from the cannons. They are almost constantly working to maintain somewhat optimal skiing conditions considering the warm weather situation.

Yastrebets 3 and Popangelov slopes were preferable

As for the weekend (10-12.03) –  the situation was pretty much the same. Yastrebets 3 and Popangelov were the better slopes due to them being in the higher parts of the resort. Morning rides on these pistes were really good and for Popangelov – the afternoon ride was actually pretty good, as well. Saturday started with some light rain and more wind in the afternoon (in the lower parts). And for the night between Saturday and Sunday precipitation turned into snow. Sunday morning welcomed us with fresh natural snow, not a lot, but still fresh snow! This allowed for slopes Markudjik 1 and Suhar to be opened. The chair lift in Markudjik center will open when there’s enough snow cover on the road between Markudjik 1 and Markudjik 2. Here’s why one should keep in mind that a lot of skiers, mainly beginners, gather on drag lift M1.

Weather forecast

Today’s morning (13.03) temperature at Martinovi Baraki, for example, was 4 degrees below zero and snow conditions were great. Fingers crossed for temperatures to remain lower for the whole week ahead. Weather forecast gives hope as well. Some new light snowfall is expected for Thursday and Friday, plus minimal temperatures will be below zero from Wednesday through Saturday.

Snow cannons are constantly working

In conclusion

Despite the not so great snow conditions of the ski season so far, keep in mind that winter is not over yet! The season is still in full action. Snow cannons are constantly working and all resort slopes are open except for Yastrebets 1, Fonfon, Markudjik 2 and Markudjik 3. For another week or two, winter season is definitely still on, so grab a pair of skis or a snowboard and have some fun!
