Greetings from snowy Borovets!
New snow is here, so read on to find out just how snowy it is at the moment at the oldest ski resort in Bulgaria.
Slopes and Snow
After the new snowfall on Sunday, and Monday and some flakes on Tuesday (07.01, 08.01, 09.01) current snow conditions at the resort are more than good. Current snow cover is 85 to 90 cm at the lower parts of the resort and 100 to 105 cm at the higher parts above Yastrebets mid station and at Markudjik area.
At the Markudjik ski area slope conditions we may say are even close to perfect!
As we mentioned above, yesterday (10.01) Markudjik ski areas offered the best skiing conditions we have had since the beginning of the 2024 ski winter season. Resort management and technical support had really done their best with the grooming of the slopes in Markudjik.
As for today (11.01), there is still enough snow at Markudjik ski area, however only Markudjik 1 slope was working, and today it was not as well groomed as it was yesterday. There were waves on some parts of the slope, especially on high speed turning areas. What is even more, there were a few stones showing on the ski road, leading to the Markudjik lift, so be careful with those.
As far as crowds are concerned, there were more people on the slopes today, but no queueing at the lifts.
Yastrebets ski slopes – currently there is a lot snow on the Yastrebets ski slopes, plus the cannons are constantly working to produce even more snow, taking advantage of the extremely cold temperatures we have had since the beginning of this week.
Haramia slope always provides one of the best rides. Unfortunately the slope itself is not as long as we wish it was. 🙂
Crowds and Queues
There was a decent amount of people on the slopes today, however no crowds and no queueing, which is even greater. January is a very good month since the resort is not as crowded as it will be during the month of February.
Night skiing
Another good news is that night skiing will be open again. Starting this Friday 12.01, night skiing will be operational on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Weather forecast
With more sunny hours yesterday (10.01) and today (11.01), but with extremely cold temperatures, weather in Borovets is as it should be during a classic winter season in January.
Current snow cover is 85 to 90 cm at the lower parts of the resort and 100 to 105 cm at the higher parts above Yastrebets mid station and at Markudjik area.
Weather forecast for the next 3 days is for mostly dry weather. Temperatures will be below freezing (min -11°C on Sat morning and max -2°C on Sun morning). Wind will be generally light.
New snowfall is expected around Tuesday the 16th, resulting in light covering of new snow, with the snow mostly falling on Tue afternoon. Temperatures will be below freezing (max -1°C on Sun afternoon, min -8°C on Tue night). Wind will be generally light.
