The 2017/18 Atomic Redster MX skis are part of our VIP rental lineup, along with the Rossignol Hero and Fischer RC4 skis. The Atomics are a medium-turn piste ski, best suited for intermediate and advanced skiers looking for good stability at high speeds. They are a light and stiff pair of skis that have easy turn initiation and good edge grip. These are not the kind of skis that will hold you back, on the contrary, they may even help you ski better.

Geometry

Length: 156cm, 165cm, 173cm
Sidecut: (165cm): 120-74-103 (mm)
Turn Radius: (165cm): 15m

The Redster MXs have a medium-long turn radius at 15m (for the 165cm model), but are also light and nimble, making short turns easy. The 74mm waist is pretty standard for an all-mountain, piste oriented ski.

Technology and Features

Core: The Atomic Redster MX has a mixed Power and Desolite core. The Power core is a combination of hard ash and light poplar, that’s stable and responsive. The Desolite core is a foam core that dampens vibrations and is very agile.

Titanium Stabilizer: A layer of titanium under the core for improved shock absorption and torsional flex.

Full Sidewall: Sidewalls affect how the ski dampens impacts and transmits power. The Full Sidewall runs across the full length of the ski for precise steering, ideal for high-performance race and piste skis.

Skiing the Atomic Redster MX

The Redsters are a very light ski and this is something you’ll notice right away. As expected, they perform best on firm, hard-packed snow, but also do a good job in the slush. Initiating from one turn to the next is easy, but these skis do require building up some speed before they perform at their best. At slow speeds the turns feel somewhat forced. Once you’ve got some speed going, the skis feel much more in control and you’ll glide from one turn to the next with stability. If you want to do quick and short turns, then a pair of skis with a shorter turn radius might be better for you. But if you like doing long carving turns at high speeds, then the 15m turn radius of the Atomics wills suit you. On choppy and slushy snow these skis do a decent job thanks to the slightly wider underfoot (when compared to race dedicated skis) and the softer flex of the skis.

In conclusion, the Atomic Redster MX skis are a good choice for more experienced riders, who want to take their skiing to the next level. Beginners would be better suited picking a more forgiving ski.
