On the 16th of March 2016, from 11:00 to 16:00, young people with intellectual disabilities, clients of day care center “Worlds”, a project of “Maria’s World” Foundation, will visit Borovets and enjoy the winter magic of the mountains. The initiative is organised by Ski & Board Traventuria, who will provide free transport and ski equipment, along with the help of Borosport, who will provide lift passes and ski tuition for all participants.
With this event we want to show these young people the beauty of Bulgaria’s nature during the winter and give the braver ones a chance to try skiing for the first time in a safe environment. Participants will also have the chance to try out snowshoeing and have some fun with sleds. Another unforgettable experience, which the organizers have in store, is a ride in the gondola “Yastrebetz” to it’s top station located at just over 2300 m. above sea level. There participants will be able to see an amazing view of the Rila Mountains and surrounding area.
Sports are very important for anyone with a disability. People with intellectual disabilities don’t have many options for such activities, even though most sports can be adjusted to their needs. With this initiative we hope to broaden the participants’ horizons and motivate them to get familiar and love winter sports. We also wish to promote physical education and sports as a form of rehabilitation, social integration and personal realization for people with intellectual disabilities in Bulgaria.
