This past Saturday, the 15th of December, was the official season opening here in Borovets. Conditions are looking promising for the season thanks to some early snowfalls this year and we expect it to be another great winter with plenty of skiing. Not all slopes are skiable at the moment, but one by one they should be opening up in time for Christmas. Keep reading to find out what’s new in Borovets and what is already open.

So far only the Yastrebets Express lift is working, as well as the surface lifts in the Sitnyakovo Ski Center. The gondola will remain closed for now, our guess is until conditions allow for the Haramia ski run to open. As of the moment, there is no groomed connection between the gondola and the working slopes. If you want to reach the Yastrebets Express lift from the resort area without a car, you can take a shuttle from the base gondola station. This shuttle is free if you have a ski pass. If you are a beginner, you can choose to use the surface lifts in front of hotel Rila.

The Markudjik Ski Center is entirely closed for now, as there are no artificial snow cannons that far up in the mountain. The forecast is for more snow over the next few days, so hopefully, the highest ski center will open soon. In the Yastrebets Ski Center, only the Popangelov and Yastrebets 3 ski runs are open and groomed, as well as the ski road that leads to the gondola base station. This means you won’t have to take a shuttle back down to Borovets, you can just ski down. In the Sitnaykovo Ski Center, only the green beginner slopes – Rila, Iglika and Rotata are open. Snow conditions on the open slopes are good and there is a very solid base layer.

New in Borovets for 2018/19

The biggest news this year is the new 6-seater lift in the Sitnaykovo Ski Center, which has replaced the old 4-seater lift Martinovi Baraki. This means that there will be fewer lift lines and getting on and off the lift will be much easier. Unlike the old lift, the new lift from Leitner Ropeways has detachable seats, which pick skiers up at a much slower speed. Night skiing will be much better now with this new addition and we’ll be able to do more runs per session.

The other important news is that Borovets have implemented a new parking taxation system. There are now “Blue Zones” in the resort, where payment can be done via SMS, with the price being 1.50lv/h.

New at Ski & Board Traventuria for 2018/19

It’s been a long summer and we’ve done some new renovations to our rental shop, located in hotel Ela, just next to the base gondola station. The biggest difference is we now have more storage lockers with built-in boot-drying systems. We’ve also updated a big part of our rental equipment with brand new skis and snowboards from Head, K2 and many other popular brands. We’ve got hundreds of new skis, boards and boots just waiting to be used for the first time. Our shop also has many new additions in its inventory, we’ve got everything from snow jackets and pants, base layers, helmets and goggle and much more.

We hope to see you soon in Borovets!
