Borovets is not only a great ski resort, but it also offers plenty to do in the summer. Visitors can choose between hiking, biking, horseback riding and other fun summertime activities. In this post, we’re going to go over the most popular sports and activities you can do during the warmer part of the year in Borovets. Regardless of your age, gender and physical abilities, you’re bound to find something to your liking.

Mountain biking

In Borovets, you’ll find one of the best lift-operated mountain bike parks in Bulgaria. First opened back in 2010, it’s been getting bigger and better every year. There are currently over 20km of marked tracks with varying difficulty levels, with the crown jewel of the park being the downhill track, which is around 2.4km long. There have been many races held on this track including UCI Class 1 races and national championships. When you purchase a lift pass for the bike park it includes the Sitnyakovo Express lift and the gondola. The bike park is suitable for downhill and enduro specific bikes, which can be rented in the resort.

For beginners and those who prefer to bike up the mountain, the Family Trail is perfect for you. It’s located just above the gondola base station and is a circular track. If you take the gondola to its top station, you can bike down the Musalenska pathway, and go from 2396m.asl. to 1383m. asl. in one run. If you’re in need of a bike we’ve got you covered, just drop by our rental shop and we’ll get you fitted with everything you need. At Ski & Board Traventuria you’ll also find plenty of spare parts and other outdoor equipment.

Hiking (guided & self-guided)

Borovets, and the Rila Mountains in general, have amazing trails and paths for you to explore. One of the most popular is climbing Mt. Musala (2,925m.asl.), the highest peak on the Balkans. There are also plenty of half-day trails, such as the Black Rock trail, which is only a few hours long. For the more adventurous, there are many full-day hikes you can take but it’s best to get a guide for most of these. Feel free to drop by our rental shop located at hotel Ela if you need any ideas and help with picking a route or if you need any hiking gear.

Spa & relaxation

Borovets might not be the best place if you’re looking for spa’s and pools, but there are some. One of our favorite places is the “Kotvata” complex, located in Sapareva Bania. You can also find a thermal mineral spring in the village of Belchinski Bani. In the resort itself, other than the spa in your hotel (if there is one), you can visit the swimming pool in the hotel Rila.

Other activites

In Borovets you’ll find plenty of other activities to fill in your time. Horseback riding is very popular and there are also ponies for the kids. Horses can be taken by the hour or for a full day. The Boroland Rope Town is also suitable for children and is located just above hotel Alpin. Again, if you’re in need of ideas, just stop by our rental shop and we’ll be glad to help.
