Getting a lift pass is generally a very simple task, but there are some things you need to know in advance that could be useful. The Borovets lift passes are valid for all of the lifts during the day, however they do not grant you access to the night skiing. That is an extra 22 BGN (season 2015/16) and you can get passes at any ticket desk. The night skiing pass includes the Martinovi Baraki lift and two other surface lifts.

Lift passes also include limited mountain insurance. If you are injured on the slope it will cover the cost of transporting you to the nearest medical center, incl. a doctor’s check. This will not cover expenses if you are injured off-piste, nor your medical bill. For those you will need to take out extra insurance. Also, keep in mind that the Musala pathway is no longer considered a slope and if you fall there, the insurance included in the lift pass will not cover you.

Booking a Borovets lift pass in advance

The cheapest way to go is with a pre-booked package from a registered tour operator. When taking advantage of all-in packages you can receive your lift pass beforehand, along with your skis and equipment. All-in packages are much cheaper than paying for the same services with on the spot rates.

To avoid hassle make sure you book your lift passes through licensed tour operators only and not from property management services, bloggers, hotels or other online sources, operating without a legal background.

Getting your lift pass in the resort

If you haven’t booked anything in advance you can buy your lift tickets from one of two ticket desks. One is at the base gondola station and works from 8:30 to 16:00. The other is at the Martinovi Baraki lift base and works from 8:30 to 16:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00. You can buy tickets the previous night and this will save you some time in the morning.

You also have the option of half-day passes. From 8:30 to 12:30 the price is 35 BGN, while from 12:00 to 16:30 it’s 30 BGN (season 2015/16).

Pass Rules

>> Lift passes are personal and cannot be given to other people. Doing so will result in the card being taken.
>> The first time you use the card to get on the lift, your picture is taken. From then on you will be compared to that picture every time you get on the lift. If you are using someone else’s pass, it will be revoked.
>> Mobile devices can cause interference with the card and shouldn’t be carried near each other. Old lift passes, or passes from other resorts that use a similar interface can also cause interference.

>> Refunds are not available in cases of:

  • Strong wind or other weather factors
  • No electricity
  • Other circumstances
